Nationals Score Late, Top Mets, 9-7
|
The Washington Nationals trumped the New York Mets, 9-7, at Citi Field. Washington right fielder Marcell Ozuna was named player of the game for his performance. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. Washington reliever Jeremy Jeffress was the winner. His record is now 1-1. Mike Montgomery took the loss. The Nationals, now 12-5, have been on fire in the early going.
Washington used the timely hitting of Joe Panik to capture the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Nationals on top, 9-7. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Washington manager Josh Fisher.
