The first-place Toronto Blue Jays took on the New York Mets at Rogers Centre.
In a tight battle between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Mets, pitcher Clayton Kershaw was in the zone. The Toronto left-hander was named the player of the game in Toronto's 3-1 win. Kershaw picked up the win for Toronto, going 7 innings. He gave up no runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 5-6.
The Blue Jays got a big at-bat from left fielder Carlos Gonzalez. For the game, Gonzalez went 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 78th hit of the season gave Toronto a 2-0 lead.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Gonzalez. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
