Pirates Edge Mets, 5-4
|
Jake Lamb made an impact in the 5-4 Pittsburgh win over New York. Lamb was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs. The win was credited to Joe Kelly in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Adam Plutko took the loss. Seranthony Dominguez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 2 save opportunities.
Had Byron Buxton not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Buxton hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Pirates.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said New York manager Larry Linke.
Their 28-49 record puts the Pirates last in the National League Central Division.
