Nationals Get Past New York for 3-2 Win
|
Washington Nationals starter Nestor Cortes turned in a top-notch performance against the New York Mets at Citi Field. The result was a win for the Nationals, 3-2. Kyle Crick was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 19 of 20 save opportunities. With the victory, the Nationals upped their record to 38-31.
Washington got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Yonder Alonso. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said New York manager Larry Linke.
