Kimbrel Reaches 300-Save Milestone in 6-3 Oakland Victory
Tuesday, July 10th, 2018
As he's done throughout his career, relief standout Craig Kimbrel took the ball and got it done. The only difference - this save, which gave the Oakland Athletics a 6-3 win over the Houston Astros, was number 300 in his famed career. It's a milestone many dream about, but few reach, a fact that was hardly lost on Kimbrel as he talked with reporters after the game.
"I think back to when I was a teenager just hoping to get my shot in this game, and never did I think I'd be saving 300 games," he said. "It's truly an honor to achieve this, and I'm proud to put my name in the record books. I'm just glad I've had the opportunity to stick in the league long enough to accomplish this."
Since coming into the league Kimbrel has registered 300 saves. His lifetime ERA is 1.89 with a 29-20 record in 520 appearances. He has rung up 839 strikeouts in 510 innings.
