Red Sox Clip Athletics in Tight Contest | The Boston Red Sox knocked off the Oakland Athletics, 6-5, at Fenway Park. Travis d'Arnaud, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Boston won. The catcher was 3-3 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Boston reliever Cam Bedrosian, now 2-0. The loser was Sean Doolittle. With the win, the Red Sox have a record of 23-20.
Had Yoenis Cespedes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases empty, Cespedes hit a solo home run. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Red Sox.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," d'Arnaud told the Boston Times.
