| Cardinals Lose, 7-3, at Target Field | The inspired effort of St. Louis center fielder Brett Phillips was not enough to prevent a 7-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Phillips was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Clayton Richard, credited with the win, is now 3-4. He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits in 7 innings. Even with the win, the Twins have a dismal 13-28 record.
The Twins got a big at-bat from second baseman Whit Merrifield. For the game, Merrifield was 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 7th double of the season gave Minnesota a 3-2 lead.
