Indians Get Close Win Over Mariners
|
The Cleveland Indians did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners at Progressive Field. Nobody did more than center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, who captured player of the game honors. Cleveland reliever David Hernandez picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Jim Johnson shouldered the loss. The save was Ryan Madson's, his 8th.
Had Brian McCann not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, McCann hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Indians.
"Feels good to get the job done," McCann said after the game.
The Mariners drop to 9-18 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2018 season.
