Nationals Need Extras to Top Giants
|
The Washington Nationals had to overcome a big game from San Francisco right fielder Nelson Cruz to leave AT&T Park with a 9-8 victory. Cruz belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Washington reliever Corey Kluber was the winner. His record is now 5-0. The losing pitcher was Ryan Tepera. Washington, now 14-8, has gotten their season off to a good start.
Andrew Benintendi, who is tied for 6th in the NL in home runs with 6, contributed to the Washington win with a 2-run single in the top of the 15th. For the game, the left fielder had 3 hits in 7 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Benintendi.
