Padres Turn Back Houston, 6-5
|
Behind a solid performance from second baseman Jose Altuve, the San Diego Padres defeated the Houston Astros, 6-5. Altuve was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Padres. Josh Fields picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Tony Zych was tagged with the loss. Getting the save was Archie Bradley, his 1st.
Byron Buxton went 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for San Diego. The slick-fielding center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jose A. Ramirez. It was his 7th RBI of the season.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said San Diego manager Danny Raymond.
The Astros fall to 3-7 and continue their wobbly start to the 2018 season.
