Indians Nip Mariners, 2-1
|
The Seattle Mariners got a superb performance from pitcher Dylan Bundy, but the Cleveland Indians still won the game, 2-1. Bundy was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Cleveland starter Kenta Maeda was credited with the win after throwing 96 pitches over 7.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. The Indians, now 2-1, have played some good baseball in the early going.
Had Christian Yelich not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Yelich hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Indians.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Cleveland manager Mitchell King said.
