On Road, Blue Jays Top Cardinals, 5-0
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the St. Louis Cardinals home opener. Chris Bassitt started for the home team against Davis Martin for the Toronto Blue Jays. The Cardinals were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 5-0, Toronto. Davis Martin, though, was impressive.
The result might have been different for Toronto, had it not been for Yainer Diaz, the 24-year old catcher . Diaz stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put Toronto up, 4-0. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Diaz told the Toronto Times.
