Nationals Topple Marlins with Late Rally
|
Miami got a terrific performance from first baseman C.J. Cron, but it wasn't enough to beat the Washington Nationals. Washington won the Marlins Park contest, 5-3. Cron was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Adam Morgan was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 4 save opportunities. Washington goes to 62-44. The win puts them 2 games up in their division.
The Nationals got a big at-bat from center fielder Aaron Hicks. For the game, Hicks went 1-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 20th home run of the season gave Washington a 5-3 lead.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Hicks told the Washington Observer.
