Twins Stymie Boston, Take 2-1 Win
|
Jason Hammel never let the Red Sox get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Twins to a 2-1 win. Tommy Kahnle was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 5 save opportunities. Minnesota is now 45-61, while Boston is 61-47.
Freddie Freeman had a clutch at-bat with one out in the top of the sixth for the Twins. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Minnesota trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run single.
"I liked his command," said Minnesota manager Al Wehr. "Jason was throwing strikes."
