Victory Pushes Tigers Record to 48-47
|
Mark Trumbo was instrumental in his team's 9-5 triumph over the Houston Astros. The first baseman belted 2 home runs for the Detroit Tigers. Jacob deGrom got the win, improving to 10-4. He worked 6 innings, giving up 5 runs on 11 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. The third-place Astros have lost 4 straight games.
Had Starling Marte not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Marte hit a grand slam. That made the score 8-5, in favor of the Tigers.
"I had a good game," said Marte. "Winning makes it even better."
