Big Day by Peralta Ignites Padres Win
|
The San Diego Padres beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-5, at PETCO Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder David Peralta, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Justin Verlander got the win, improving to 6-6. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 8 and walking 1. The Padres bumped their record to 47-38 with this latest triumph.
Jose Altuve, who is tied for 7th in the NL in extra base hits with 41, chipped in for San Diego with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"Chalk one up for the good guys," said Altuve. "I'm sure our fans enjoyed that win."
