The Houston Astros did just enough to sneak past the Kansas City Royals, 6-5, at Kauffman Stadium. Houston first baseman Dominic Smith earned player of the game honors. The win was Paul Sewald's in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Chris Sale took the loss for Kansas City. A.J. Minter, credited with the save, is now 15 for 18 in save opportunities.

Smith had a key at-bat for Houston early in the game. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season and gave Houston an early 3-0 lead.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Kansas City manager Bryce Shuck. "The effort was great."

The Astros bumped their record to 38-35 with this latest triumph.
