Nationals Stun Blue Jays, 3-2
|
The Toronto Blue Jays got a superb performance from pitcher Clayton Kershaw, but the Washington Nationals still won the game, 3-2. Kershaw was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball. Washington reliever Dominic Leone picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Trevor Rosenthal absorbed the loss. The Nationals bumped their record to 41-27 with this latest triumph.
The Nationals got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Yulieski Gurriel. For the game, Gurriel was 1 for 1 with a home run. In the top of the ninth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 14th home run of the season gave Washington a 3-2 lead.
"It was a good effort all around," said Gurriel.
