Blue Jays Win in 13
|
Toronto starter Kyle Gibson had a strong outing against the Washington Nationals at Rogers Centre. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-4 win. Toronto reliever Danny Barnes was the winner. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Zack Burdi. Toronto improves to 44-25 with the win. They lead their division by 4½ games.
The Blue Jays got a big at-bat from second baseman Dee Gordon. For the game, Gordon was 3-7 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. In the bottom of the 13th, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 93rd hit of the season gave Toronto a 5-4 lead.
"The game of baseball will test you," said Ryan Hicks, the Toronto skipper. "This one tested us."
