Royals Losing Streak at 5 After Extra-Inning Loss to Athletics
|
Oakland Athletics starter J.A. Happ pitched a strong game against the Kansas City Royals at Oakland Coliseum, leading the Athletics to a 2-1 win. The winner was Justin Jacome in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Kyle Freeland took the loss. The Royals, at 26-37, have lost 5 in a row.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Herschel Powell came to bat in the bottom of the 14th. Facing Kansas City pitcher Paul Clemens, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Oakland on top, 2-1.
"To not win that game stings a little bit," said Kansas City manager Bryce Shuck.
