Rowdy Players Suspended by League Sunday, August 9th, 2020 Yesterday at Safeco Field Manny Machado and Sam Dyson got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Machado will have to sit out 4 while Dyson would be given a 8-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Thus far this season Machado has hit .276 with 34 home runs, 78 RBIs and scored 76 times. This year Dyson has chalked up a 4.89 ERA with 1 save. In 52 relief appearances he has put up a 2-1 won-lost mark and struck out 37 batters in 53.1 innings. |
