Braves Cream Nationals, 15-1
|
The Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals, 15-1, at SunTrust Park. The win was due in part to first baseman Freddie Freeman, who went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5. Chris Archer earned the win for Atlanta. He lasted 8 innings, allowing 1 run on 8 hits, while striking out 7. With the win, he raised his record to 6-3. Atlanta has now won 3 straight, while the Nationals have lost 4 in a row.
With Atlanta leading 9-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Freeman came up to bat against Washington pitcher Nate Jones. Freeman hit a sinker to left-center for a grand slam home run. His 24th home run of the season put the Braves on top, 13-0.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Atlanta manager Tyler Rumpel.
