Stanton Slugs Phillies to 7-4 Win
|
With right fielder Giancarlo Stanton leading the charge, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Washington Nationals, 7-4, at Citizens Bank Park. Stanton, who led the NL in extra base hits with 69 in 2014, slugged 2 home runs. Philadelphia reliever John Schreiber picked up the win to move to 3-0. Jeremy Jeffress suffered the loss. Lou Trivino, credited with the save, is now 4 for 6 in save opportunities.
The Phillies got a big at-bat from center fielder A.J. Pollock. For the game, Pollock hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 34th home run of the season gave Philadelphia a 6-4 lead.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Philadelphia manager Anthony Cepperalo.
Washington is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 6 in a row.
