Athletics Win at Seattle, 9-5
|
The Seattle Mariners got a superb performance from right fielder Mitch Haniger, but the Oakland Athletics still won the game, 9-5. Haniger was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Jordan Montgomery got the win, improving to 5-11. He held the Mariners to 5 runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 0. With the win, Oakland pushed its record to 48-48.
It could have been a different outcome for Oakland, had it not been for Kurt Suzuki, the 36-year old catcher . Suzuki contributed a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put Oakland up, 6-1.
In postgame comments to the Oakland News, Suzuki said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
