Indians Score Late to Upend Royals, 5-3
|
The Cleveland Indians picked up a win at Kauffman Stadium, knocking off the Kansas City Royals, 5-3. Starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow played a key role in the triumph. Cleveland pitcher Felix Bautista got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Taylor Guilbeau got the loss. Kirby Yates was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 19 of 20 save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Cleveland, had it not been for J.D. Martinez, the two-time All-Star . Martinez contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put Cleveland up, 5-3.
"Glad to get this win," said Martinez. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
Cleveland, at 39-26, is 2 games up in the American League Central Division.
