Reds Win by Slim Margin, 5-4
|
Cincinnati starter Drew Smyly pitched well against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The left-hander led his team to a win, 5-4. Rex Brothers notched his 14th save in 15 chances. The Pirates, now 27-34, have lost 5 straight.
Cincinnati used a clutch hit from Gregory Polanco to get the win. The right fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Reds ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Smyly.
