Pittsburgh Gets 5-4 Win
|
Pittsburgh Pirates starter Tyler Mahle pitched a strong game against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, leading the Pirates to victory, 5-4. In 7 innings, Mahle surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. He allowed 4 runs. Earning his 14th save for Pittsburgh was Taylor Rogers.
There was more than one reason the Pirates beat the Reds, but Mahle's big at-bat in the top of the fourth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 3-1 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"I was a little disappointed," said Cincinnati manager Brad S. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
At 27-29, the Pirates find themselves in third place in the National League Central Division.
